Raccoon Graduates from Simon Fraser University

A raccoon whose name is graduated from SFU University in Canada. Pumpkin, a Raccoon graduate from Simon Fraser University is cute and has captured the hearts of all students and entire faculty with his intelligence and curiosity.  Apart from its  bandit mask and people-like fingers, Raccoon’s curiosity is one of its defining traits. Due to her curiosity and intelligence, Dr. Leslie McDougall, the SFU wildlife biologist enrolls pumpkin in Environmental Science’s undergraduate program.

In the year 2019, her path to graduation started. She attended classes alongside other human students and also participated in class discussions and campus events. Apart from this, she participated in research projects, and inspired innumerable students with her story of resilience and determination.

On June 14, 2023, Pumpkin proudly walked across the stage at her SFU Convocation Ceremony to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. Pumpkin’s graduation is a testament to the power of her education and the transformative potential of human-animal interaction. It reminds us that all living things, regardless of species, have the ability to learn, grow, and contribute to society.

Raccoons are the most intelligent mammals after humans, monkeys, and apes. They can remember which door the treat or food was hidden in. Raccoons are kept as pets in some parts of the world . Although they are cute, but male raccoons are known to become aggressive as they grow, so they are considered unsuitable home pets. However, they are one of the few animals that can transition from domestic to wild animals.
